Troubleshooting Tips to Fix Your Computer

Computers have become a necessity for many people in the world. Business offices, entrepreneurs, government institutions, bloggers, YouTubers, and freelancers all depend on computers to carry out their day to day activities.

A computer is a machine, and just like any other machine, system failures occur once in a while. If your computer is affected by a system failure or begins to respond slowly while you are deep into a project, there are simple fixes recommended by professionals which you can try on your own before you rush to a computer repair shop.

These troubleshooting fixes are simple, and you do not need to be a computer wizard to run them.

1.    Scan for Viruses

Running a virus scan is a simple but effective fix to many computer problems. Malware and viruses cause many computer problems.

Running a virus scan through a genuine antivirus program can fix a computer crash or computer slowdowns. Run a deep scan but make sure the antivirus software is up to date to make sure it captures all the threats.

  1. Run a Software Update

If a virus scan does not fix the problem, another option is to update your computer software.  Outdated software can cause glitches in your computer.

Many applications including your computer software are on automatic updates. However, you should countercheck to make sure auto-update is not turned off.

Apply updates to all your applications, and this should fix a couple of problems and protect your computer from future glitches. You should start with updating the operating system before the other applications.

3.    Run System Cleanups

When old and unused applications, software, or files clog up your computer hard drive, your computer OS is overworked, and your files might suffer fragmentation. Fragmentation will fill up the free storage, and this slows down your computer.

To solve these problems, you can manually delete or uninstall applications and files that you no longer use or don’t need. You should also remove extensions and add-ons in your browsers that have no use. Extensions and add-ons can also affect how effective your computer functions.

If the disk space is running low, try to run a disk clean up. This will free up some storage space and improve your computer functionality.

4.    Reinstall the Operating System

This troubleshooting process should be your last fix if the others fail to solve the problem completely.

Reinstalling your computer’s operating system can solve many problems. It will remove all programs that are not working properly, permanently removes all viruses and malware that have attacked your computer and any other unwanted program that might be causing problems to your computer.

Do not forget to back up important data before you begin to reinstall the operating system. Reinstalling the OS is a lot of work, but it will fix a lot of the problems that your computer might be facing.

If you are experiencing slow internet connections, the fix is pretty easy, that is if you are sure your router is working right and there is no blackout. Just switch your Wi-Fi off and on, and the connection will be back on. If the problem is with the router, you can reboot the rooter or search for troubleshooting tips from the internet.
